Green Buildings: High Performance State-Owned Buildings Legislation

AIA Pennsylvania asks House and Senate members to support this legislation, and put back the “State-Funded Buildings” language.

These bills promote green buildings through Green Design Standards for state-owned projects.

  • Green Buildings help reduce America’s dependence on foreign energy sources.
  • Green Buildings are good for the environment.
  • Cost-savings and environmental benefits in the lifetime of a building far outweigh the additional cost to “build green.”
  • Green buildings lead to increased student/worker productivity.
  • Green buildings improve health for building occupants.

AIA Pennsylvania’s Issue Brief

Historic Preservation Incentives Legislation

AIA Pennsylvania asks Senate members to pass the bill without funding, to enable the program to be established for future use.

AIA Pennsylvania thanks the House for passing the bill.

  • For many years, efforts have been made to put private sector tax credits and grants in place to reinvest in existing older buildings.
  • These incentives reinvigorate blighted areas, create jobs, increase state tax rolls, provide affordable housing, and preserve the Commonwealth’s architectural treasures.
  • Pennsylvania is one of only eight states with no incentive program for private sector rehabilitation of historic buildings.
